If anyone looks me up, I will respond. I am expecially interested in all the old H-21 people. I was a Crew Chief on 55-4175 in the 6th TC in Korea in 1958-1960. Although I never had the 67U MOS (Was 67W and 67Z) I was with several CH-47 units. Now here it is over 30 years later and the Chinooks are still flying while the CH-21's are just a dim memory. I wish I could contact all the good people I served with in the 179th and the 213th, as well as those in the 6th TC and thank them personally, especially those in the 213th that made my job so much easier. |

Started in Phu Loi, on 539th 3 Recovery Chinooks for 2 months
67, All in Co. had the same ending date. They sent some of us
to the 330th Vung Tau, in Sept 67. Was on 3-330th's Recovery
Chinooks. Discharged Apr 68. What a honor to be on the Recovery
Chinooks. A roof over your head. Slept over night many times in
them. Air condition when in flight. Heated can food, wired to a
metal rod, Via APU exhaust heat. Was a cleanup, gunner, CE, FE.
Had good pilots to work with. After discharged, got a Comm
Airplane & Helicopter, Insturment, Multi-eng. Seaplane Rating.
Have a business in Wisc. building sport aircraft. Loved the
Hookers. Anyone know where 330th SP7 Maxwell is living today? |

The name pachyderms was thought of as a mascot for our Hooks so being the resident artist I had to paint elephants on all of our Chinooks and painted the company sign and the original patch. To this day I cringe at the sight of an elephant (just kidding) we survived Martha Raye’s show and Bob Hope on Christmas Day 1967 with a lot of help from Raquel Welch (she still looks goood!). After that came the Tet offensive in January 1968 (incoming!)and finally the original 200th left for home in Mar 68. I was assigned to Hunter AAF in Savannah and discharged in Feb 69. I work for the Post Office now and can retire anytime...but anytime an air show comes to town and a Chinook I drag the kids and grandkids to show them a part of history that keeps this country free! |

I remained in the Army for 14 years then reenlisted in the Marine Wing, was a SNCO in Tustin, CA and retired from the Marine Wing in Alameda. To all my BlackCat brothers, I am still alive and waiting for our next reunion, Las Vegas, was a blast. If you know of any BlackCats from the 213th in Phu Loi, please contact me, or Mike Brown, I will ensure that he gets the names. Love you all! BlackCat Walt or Kid as I was known in the Nam Fraser. Talofa (Hi in Samoan) Been in the Hawaii Army NG since May 1997. Finished BCT Mar 98, then AIT in July 98 and home for duty. Recently returned from a year deployment in Balad Iraq.
